Barr. Adeola Adeleye-Fasubaa urges US-Based Ekiti Associations to Assist Members Affected by Migration Policy of Trump.
The Director-General of Ekiti Diaspora Relations, Barr. Adeola Adeleye-Fasubaa, has appealed to all Ekiti community associations in the United States to offer support to their fellow Ekiti people impacted by President Donald Trump’s newly introduced migration policy.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the DG emphasized that providing legal, welfare, and logistical assistance would help alleviate the challenges faced by affected individuals.
Barr. Adeola expressed concerns that the policy might lead to increased isolation and vulnerability for many, underscoring the urgent need for practical assistance for those impacted.
Additionally, the DG called for an emergency meeting of Elders, leaders, and well-meaning friends on Sunday, February 16th, 2025, at 8 pm, to discuss timely solutions. The meeting will include a team of US-based lawyers and the Attorney General of Ekiti State.
“As we all know, the United States is now under a new administration, which has introduced policies that could significantly affect the status of immigrants, particularly Nigerians and Ekiti people.
“It is important that our Ekiti community associations across the USA collaborate to respond to the needs of those who may be adversely affected by these policies,” the DG said.
She noted that support could come in the form of legal aid, welfare services, or logistical help to mitigate hardships. Many individuals may feel isolated or vulnerable during this time, unsure of where to turn for assistance.
Barr. Adeola urged for collective action to address these challenges, suggesting outreach to all known members, raising awareness, and identifying individuals who require help. Additionally, the formation of a Relief Fund and the recruitment of legal practitioners willing to offer pro bono or discounted services could be potential solutions.
She further called for a focused meeting on Sunday, February 16th, to work together with the community, ensuring that every Ekiti person is valued, especially in this critical moment. The meeting will be conducted via Zoom, with the involvement of US-based lawyers and the Ekiti State Attorney General.
“We must ensure that every Ekiti life is recognized and supported, especially in a moment like this, as we navigate this new phase in the history of the United States,” she concluded.
