The Federal Government has unveiled a new reusable textbook policy aimed at reducing the cost of education and improving learning outcomes across Nigeria’s pre-tertiary schools.
Under the policy, textbooks used in public schools will be standardised and designed to last between four and six years, allowing them to be reused by successive cohorts of students. The initiative is expected to ease the financial burden on parents and guardians while promoting consistency in teaching and learning.
The Ministry of Education disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, noting that the policy forms part of broader reforms targeted at strengthening the country’s basic and secondary education systems.
In addition, the Federal Government announced plans to introduce a uniform academic calendar for pre-tertiary schools nationwide. According to the ministry, the move is intended to ensure stability, better coordination, and minimal disruption to academic activities across states.
The ministry added that further details on the implementation framework and timelines for both policies will be communicated in due course.
