Ekiti approves N76.6m vehicle, housing loans for primary school teachers

The Ekiti State Government has approved a total of N76.6 million as vehicle and housing loans for primary school teachers across the state.

The approval covers vehicle loans for 49 teachers and housing loans for 72 beneficiaries, according to the Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

The Chairman of SUBEB, Prof. Femi Akinwumi, said the gesture reflected the commitment of Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration to improving teachers’ welfare and boosting morale in the basic education sector.

In a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, Akinwumi described incentives for teachers as essential to the delivery of free and quality basic education in the state.

“Governor Biodun Oyebanji has approved N76.6 million as vehicle and housing loans for primary school teachers in the state as part of efforts to improve their welfare. Improved welfare will enable teachers to perform better and create a more conducive learning environment for pupils,” he said.

The SUBEB chairman recalled that the state government had earlier disbursed N200 million under its revolving loan scheme to allow more teachers benefit from similar interventions.

Akinwumi commended the governor for prioritising the education sector, particularly in the areas of infrastructure development, manpower enhancement and staff welfare. He also urged beneficiaries to use the loans judiciously and reciprocate the gesture with increased dedication to duty.

Providing a breakdown of the latest approval, the Permanent Secretary of SUBEB, Mr Michael Omolayo, said N43 million was approved as vehicle loans for 49 teachers, while N33.6 million was released as another tranche of housing loans for 72 beneficiaries.

The development follows a similar intervention in September 2025, when Governor Oyebanji approved the disbursement of N596.6 million for car and housing loans to 807 teaching and non-teaching staff in public secondary schools across the state.

At the time, the Permanent Secretary of the Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission, Mr Michael Boluwade, said N381.5 million of the total was allocated for car loans to 382 beneficiaries, while N215.1 million was disbursed as housing loans to 425 beneficiaries.

Boluwade noted that the loans, paid to qualified personnel of the commission, were in line with the 100 per cent increase earlier approved by the governor to further enhance staff welfare and morale.
