Ekiti Parapo UK got her Orlando Magic back,... how Comrade Olamide Idowu became the President in 2022.

God works in mysterious ways. How else does one start with the emergence of Comrade Olamide Idowu aka Orlando as the President of the Ekiti Parapo UK? Comrade Olamide Idowu is no stranger to community organising and activism, as a matter of fact, he was a product of Great Ife. While at the Obafemi Awolowo University Comrade Olamide was a student activist and was once elected as the Chairman of the popular Adekunle Fajuyi Hall and was involved in other Student Union matters. It was not surprising that he founded the Do iT Right Africa Initiative DIRAi according to registration documents, it has the objectives  for the re-orientation, promotion of transparency, restoration of decency and Leadership by example, justice and fairness amongst others.

Comrade Olamide’s  journey to the Ekiti Parapo UK Presidency can only be described as fate in action. It couldn’t have been more evident as events unfolded beyond Ekiti Parapo UK and Comrade olamide’s  imagination and control in 2022. The election for the new executives of the Ekiti Parapo UK was slated for the 10th of July 2022. Two prominent members put themselves forward to become the president, elections were held, a winner emerged but just at the point of swearing in the winner – the newly elected president, he declined to be sworn in. The elected president managed to say a few words before he walked out on the group. He resigned before he was sworn in, no doubt that will be the shortest reign ever of Ekiti Parapo UK presidency. 

There was shock, then the reactions. The electoral committee took control of the gathering by calming everybody present, “A ri iru eleyi ri, A fin deru boloro ni” is a popular Yoruba saying, what does the EPUK constitution say? What is the way forward? 

The 2nd  contestant for the post of presidency was approached to come and be sworn in but he requested for time in order to process what has just happened. The other elected officers was sworn in and the meeting was adjourned to the 14th of August 2022.

The top agenda at the meeting of the 14th of August was filling the vacant positions, nominations has been called in the previous days leading to the meeting, nominations was also welcomed on the floor. In all, there was a nomination each for the vacant positons of financial officer, Welfare officer and the President. The trio emerged unopposed but not without still doing the needful, ballot papers was passed round for members present to register their vote.

Comrade Olamide Idowu has a date with destiny and he was duly elected as the President of the Ekiti Parapo UK.  He took the oath of office immediately and he in turn administer the oath of office on other officials elected. 

Ekiti Parapo UK has got its Orlando Magic wand,  she has got Comrade Olamide Idowu at the helms and the only way is up.
