Celebrating African Culture in Liverpool.

Comrade Idowu said he travelled from London to attend the yearly event and he has not missed Africa Oye in last 7 years except during Covid when it was suspended due to the virus outbreak.
Idowu who attended the event in company of his daughter, brothers and their families said many people love Africa Oye festival because it is promoting African culture, bringing famous artists to entertain the attendees.
He recollects that Seun Kuti, the son of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, the Great played and entertained thousands of attendees in 2023.
There was an incredible turn out for the Africa Oye festival once again.
Today, Saturday, June 22, was the first day of the event, hundreds of people descending on Sefton Park to enjoy live music, workshops, DJ stages, food stalls and a range of traders. The sun also made an appearance and the rain stayed away.
Originally launched as a series of gigs in Liverpool back in 1992, the festival is now one of Liverpool citys most popular events that celebrates the music and culture of Africa.Among the acts performing at Sefton Park this weekend are Ghanian highlife stars FRA, Cameroonian soloist Veeby, and guitarist, percussionist and balafon player, Kimi Djabate.
The Liverpool festival is the UKs largest free celebration of African music and culture. This years headliners include Les Amazones d Afrique on Saturday and Julian Marley.
